Multiracial Students’ Association
Cal Poly Multiracial Students' Association (MUSA) is a club that aims to build a welcoming community for mixed students. It is one of the newer cultural clubs on campus, having been established in 2021 during COVID-19.
MY ROLE
I served as the club’s very first Graphic Designer for a year, before stepping in the role of Vice President the following year. As Graphic Designer, I was responsible for designing graphics for social media and physical merchandise. Additionally, I managed the Instagram by copywriting captions, regularly posting, and responding to messages/comments.

TIMELINE:
September 2022–June 2023
As MUSA's first official Graphic Designer, I had the unique challenge of figuring out what MUSA's presence on Instagram would look like. I wanted to create engaging posts that would 1) clearly convey information about events to members and 2) establish our presence as a growing club and attract new potential members.
To do this, firstly I created new cohesive branding for MUSA. Our original branding utilized multiple shades of bright blue. I opted for a more neutral color palette that would be easier to work with, though I stayed true to our original club colors by incorporating some muted shades of blue.
Instagram Feed
Rebranded Instagram feed (right) compared to the previous feed (left). Though the previous feed did have a cohesive feed, it was a Canva template and used very generic illustrations from Canva.
Looking back, I could’ve improved the contrast on the text of my posts as the tints of gray and blue could be a bit difficult to read at times, but I did make sure to include all the information in the captions of the posts.
Throughout the year, I created three different stickers and crewneck sweatshirts. The sweatshirts were initially leadership board exclusive merchandise as a uniform to wear at events, but due to popular demand we ended up selling them to general members too.
